ups and downs
once again, i'm up early on a sunday morning. #&*$&%^!
the hubby is still completely knocked out in bed. he's recently taken to not riding on sunday mornings in an attempt to catch up on sleep lost due to getting up early for work and his saturday rides. so i'm not really begrudging him his sleep right now. i'm just envious of how dead to the world he is. and yes, the mushy me has a total soft spot for how vulnerable he looks when he's sleeping. hee. i could just sit there and watch him, but that'd be a little stalker-ish... so i decided to be productive and blog instead. yeah.
anyhow, we're supposed to go to the ikea sale today. the deadliest of word combinations - "ikea" and "sale" and "sunday". yeah. we were supposed to go early to beat the crowds but seeing as how it's almost 10am, erm, we may just have to go fight the crowds instead. hmm.
so anyways, since i have some time, i figured i'd recap some of the happenings this past week. for starters, i got to experience both the highs and lows of being preggers. let's start with one of the highs first...
highs: we soooo have an excuse to go shopping in toys'r'us now! and it's kinda fun, altho both of us were a little let down and the lack of toy selection in the local outlet. the ones in the US are huge and have much cooler stuff. for those of you who didn't know this about us - in grad school we were in a class that had a budget allocated to buy toys for the class. hence yours truly and the hubby (then classmate) and friends would spend countless hours in toys'r'us and fry's picking out toys and cool electronic gadgets. yeah.
another high - baby stuff is just soooo cute! it's so hard to fight the temptation to want to buy every miniature sized shoe/sock/hat out there. i just want to squish half the stuff i see! even the cot bumper sets (yes, i realise they are but mere linen) are totally delish! argh.
another high - every morning when i wake up, i lie flat on my back for a bit (just a while cos i know it's not good to lie on your back for extended periods of time) and feel my tummy. it's kinda fun just to feel where my uterus has reached up to. it's currently on par with my belly button. usually, the bump (or hump if you're a b.e.p fan) is centralised and symmetrical. this morning i rolled over from my side to my back as per usual and the bump was decidedly asymmetrical. the stowaway had somehow decided to park itself on my left side. hah. the right side of me was gently sloping and the left side of me had this odd-shaped bump. haha. i tried to wake the hubby enough to get him to feel it, but i think he was a little too groggy to make any sense of it. anyhow, yeah, after lying on my side again, the stowaway righted itself and my bump is now symmetrical. which is neater and more aesthetically pleasing, but not quite as nifty nor exciting. hah.
so yeah, there are a gazillion more highs.. but the rest will have to wait.
now the lows:
maternity wear - while i have to say maternity wear has gotten more fashionable over the years, some of the stuff is practical but unbelievably frumpy or trendy but unbelievably impractical. sigh. and it's pretty darn expensive to build up a basic wardrobe from scratch. i've finally grown enough to justify a whole new wardrobe (woo hoo!) and went on a shopping spree at a bunch of different stores this past week. kale's not that excited that my days of wanting to only lounge on the couch all day are over and i'm back in my shopping mood. hah.
the dizzy spell - so on friday night, i went out on said shopping spree with my parents cos kale was out at some biking thing. after a pretty hectic day at work and walking around a mall for an hour or so, we were heading back to the car when we stopped at one of those bargain stores with everything at $8. and me, the eternal bargain hunter ambled in with my mom. i suddenly felt really nauseous and had to get out to get air. by the time i got out the door of the store, i was seeing stars, couldn't focus and had to sit down on the floor (so unglam, by the way). thankfully my parents were there and knew what to do - i.e. wave a menthol stick in my face and get some medicated oil. i luckily didn't pass out but it definitely scared me how little i could control how i felt and how sudden it hit me. see, the thing is, my mom's pretty prone to dizziness, so it didn't surprise me much that she fainted once each time she was pregnant... my colleague too had warned me about something like this happening, but i didn't really pay too much attention seeing as how i have NEVER ever felt faint nor dizzy my whole life. so friday nite was a fright and a wake up call that perhaps i'm not as invincible as i thought.
so anyhow, i'm glad i'm not going for my business trip. it scares me to think that something like this could happen while i'm dashing in between meetings or on my way to catch a plane. i'm glad i'm staying. so once again, while things didn't really make sense at the time, in hindsight, one can always see the reason for things happening the way they do. so yes, i'm very thankful that i'm not going, and that everyone was as supportive as they were, and the doc said what she did at the time. i'm also glad that friday happened cos now i don't feel guilty about not going on the trip anymore. i feel thankful. and that is important to me. i feel as though a load has lifted.
ok lah, have rambled on for long enough. now time to see if i can wake the hubby and make our way over to ikea. update later!
