Sailing into the sunset
We did something completely out of the ordinary this past Saturday. Dawn's neighbor owns a sailboat which is available for charter and she managed to help us make the arrangements to take the boat out for a few hours last Saturday.
It was a win-win situation for all involved, we enjoyed just chilling on the boat while Kale enjoyed sailing the boat (along with the owner Jason). After an hour or so on the boat, he said he'd forgotten how much he loves sailing. Which I guess is as close to my very non-expressive hubby saying that he had a blast.
I'd say that his top 3 loves are sailing, cycling and skiing (not in any particular order).. but since he moved here, skiing's obviously not been an option, and so he was left with sailing and cycling. He found that both of those are REALLY time-consuming hobbies and so had to rationalise and pick one - cycling. He hasn't been on a boat in a looong time. The last time, me thinks, was when he was helping to teach little kids at one of the local sailing clubs when he first moved out here. So yeah, suffice to say that Saturday was a huge bonus for him. Haven't seen him that happy in a loong time.
There was decent wind, and the haze actually helped cos it was overcast and not so warm. We all had a blast - the girls made sure it was a chi-chi event with Perrier and "branded" snacks from M&S. Hah. Living the high life!! All we needed were some burberry swimsuits, champagne and backup dancers and we could have been on some music video shoot! Van sure had the sunglasses for it! Have some pics and will try to upload them later from the other computer.
It was nice to get out for a few hours, sans baby. Although I have to admit that I was itching to call back and check in every hour with my aunt and cousin who were watching Meredith for the afternoon. The hubby managed to stop me from doing so... and in the end it all went well. The peanut was very good, according to my aunt and cousin... so I guess I had nothing to worry about.
The hubby had a really good time, and so did I. We'll do it again next year for Kale's real birthday...
Update: Here are the pics..
